Some flight tips and facts you may not know

Budget travel expenses

In the past, all airlines served food regardless of the price of your ticket. Gone are the days. The saying "you get what you pay for" applies to budget travel. Cheaper tickets mean the following:

  • No more limitations when it comes to changing tickets and schedules

  • Additional charges for many bags

  • Fewer onboard equipment, such as free headphones

  • Meals and drinks come at a price

  • Little accumulation of miles

  • Limited entertainment during the flight

Ticketing

There are airlines that offer electronic ticketing and others that allow you to check in with a smartphone app. As a tip, use both when possible. For convenience, use the phone, but also print your e-ticket – if the phone scanners never work (as some travelers find).

Cabin travel only

Choose hand luggage only to avoid baggage fees, lost baggage and long waiting times. It is best to pack light, bring your essentials and be aware of the safety restrictions.

Online registration

The majority of airlines allow you to check in online one day before your scheduled flight. This gives the advantage of getting better seats, as the restricted seats become available for use.

Choose a seat

People traveling have different seat choices, some preferring to stay near the aisle or window for understandable reasons, but airplane seats have slight differences.

  • Usually, the seats located in front or at the exit rows do not recline.

  • The seats surrounding the toilet have a special smell.

  • Depending on the design of an aircraft, some seats have less or more legroom.

Nervous flyers

Pilots wonder why many people fear turbulence. Nervous people should know that turbulence does not crash an airplane, that the wings fall off, or that the engines accidentally stop working. Planes are designed to withstand lightning, so there is no need to worry when lightning strikes.

If you want a smooth ride, choose to sit on the wing. Since the plane is similar to a swing, when you are in the middle, it tends to move less. If you feel nervous while flying, take a morning flight. During the latter part of the afternoon, the heating of the ground causes a bumpy air and, this is usually the time when thunderstorms occur.

Several airports

Many travel locations allow you to search for multiple airports in a particular city. For example, when traveling to San Francisco, you can check out Oakland International Airport (OAK) as well as San Francisco International Airport (SFO). You can choose between the two airports for cheaper tickets or better flight times.

National or international flights

More often than not, domestic flights cost less than international flights, even with the same travel distance. Optionally, you can fly to a city near the border and then cross the land by land. For example, when you want to visit Montreal, you can go to Syracuse, New York, and then cross the border.
